Weekly Happenings
In writing workshop this week we have continued to focus on writing stories with a beginning, middle, and end. We have been learning about narrative story structure in reading workshop and are working on transferring that knowledge to our writing.
To continue our study of story elements, we took time this week to enjoy "The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything". We illustrated the setting and made the characters. We then practiced retelling the story as a class and with a friend. This week we learned about retelling and plot!
In reading and math workshop we continued working on our new stations and practicing being independent during these times. Next week our goal will be to consistently have math and reading groups all week!
On Thursday, Ms. Nicole visited us through the SNAP-Ed program. She read a book, we did a fun activity and we tried peaches! She will visit once a month to teach us about different fruits and vegetables!
In art with Mrs. Linders, everyone made spooky bat pictures using cool and warm colors. They are beautiful and Mrs. Linders displayed them in the hallway.
On Halloween Friday, we started our day with pumpkin math and science! We learned that pumpkins float and we divided the seeds up and counted them. Our pumpkin had 523 seeds! Everyone put the seeds they counted into individual tins and Ms. Kathy and Mr. Justin roasted them for us!
We also had fun at Halloween math stations, had a Halloween parade, and had a great party to end the day! Thank you for the treats!
