Hello! I'm Mrs. Anderson. I live in Amherst with Mr. Anderson, our four cats: The Cheat, Bou, Hermes, and Apollo, our two dogs Moxie and Hagrid, our 5 chickens and rooster, Trogdor! Mr. Anderson is the Multimedia Design teacher at Hancock County Technical Center and an adjunct professor in the media program at Husson University. This is my fourth year at Airline Community School as the K-2 teacher.
My Teaching History
I completed my undergraduate degree at Smith College where I studied Studio Art with a focus in graphic design and elementary education. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles, CA where I worked as a graphic designer for websites and print ads. Though I enjoyed design, I had always known that I would become a teacher one day. After four years in the city, I moved back home to attend graduate school at the University of Maine at Orono where I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching. I then spent the next six years working at Lyman Elementary School in RSU 57. I worked as a K-1 teacher, fourth grade teacher and then I worked as a Literacy Coach for four years. While working as a literacy coach I completed my Certificate of Advanced Study in Literacy. In 2010 I was hired to teach Kindergarten at the Hussey School. After two years in Kindergarten, I moved up to second grade for 4 years. As Mr. Anderson and I looked to moving closer to family, I took a position at Ellsworth Elementary Middle School, where I taught 3rd grade for two years, before joining the family at Airline Community School.
My Family
I grew up in Orrington with my mom, dad and brother. My mother is a retired teacher and she and my father live in the Brewer. My mom always helps me with my classroom and my dad has made a large percentage of the furniture in our classroom!
My brother and his wife have three beautiful daughters. They live in Los Angeles, where my brother is a professor at UCLA.
