ANNOUNCEMENTS
This week we continued learning about the solar system and nonfiction text features. We spent time being book detectives and looking for interesting ways information was organized or presented. We have been learning about these features: table of contents, bold print, headers, diagrams, labels, captions, index, and glossary.
This week we moved on from learning about the sun, to learning about the planet closest to our sun, Mercury! We started by activating our prior knowledge on what we already knew. We then did some research on Mercury and started to take notes in our solar system research books.
One of the facts we learned was that Mercury does not have an atmosphere. This means that meteoroids and comets hit the surface and create many craters. We tested this out ourselves and turned a smooth surface (flour) into one filled with craters, created by our meteoroids (raisons and cranberries).
I didn't do so well with photos this week, but here is one of a math group and one of inside recess crafting!
