Jillian Jackman
Jillian Jackman is elated to state that she was born and raised in the breathtaking province of Newfoundland. She was fortunate to be raised in a Christian home and attended Eugene Vaters Pentecostal Collegiate from kindergarten to grade 12. Following high school she attended Memorial University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts with double major in Psychology and Sociology. During the process of her degree she worked with young children diagnosed with Autism through the Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) program. This experience unearthed a passion for teaching children with special challenges. Jillian uses skills and strategies she obtained through one on one consultation with occupational therapists, speech language pathologist and physiotherapists to individualize student learning. Jillian is enthusiastic about providing students with sensory integration disorder the sensory diet they need to experience success in the kindergarten classroom. Upon the completion of her BA she entered a 4 year program and earned a Bachelor of Education in primary/elementary education. During this Degree she met her loving, animated and supportive husband Ken.
Jillian and Ken married in 2006 when she finished her program of studies and quickly moved to High Level, Alberta. Jillian jokes about how they actually passed right by the town upon their arrival and thought "that was it"? High level Christian school was where she experienced her first two years of teaching. Jillian stated “I couldn't have asked for a better experience and the people I met there still hold a very special place in my heart“. High Level was a great start for the Jackmans but a lack of job opportunities for Ken brought them to Fort McMurray in 2008.
Jillian is proud to work for the Fort McMurray Public School District at Fort McMurray Christian School. She is passionate about and feels supported by the District in accommodating students with special needs, individualizing learning according to multiple intelligences and providing kids with technology in the classroom. Jillian feels that she has been accepted with open arms by the Fort McMurray Christian school community and looks forward to growing with "the little school that could."
