It is the policy of the Board of Directors to attempt to hire properly certificated or qualified
individuals to substitute for absent employees. Substitute employees shall be retained by the
administration and not by the individual employee.
Substitute teachers shall be paid at a daily rate set by the Board of Directors, prorated by the
day if substitute teacher works less than a full day. The minimum day shall be ½ day. After ten
10) consecutive teaching days in the same assignment, the substitute teacher shall be paid 1.2
times the daily substitute rate.
When the superintendent requests a teacher to be a long-term substitute, the pay shall be paid
on the first step of the salary schedule in the educational lane equivalent to his/her
education. No insurance benefits are provided, but the long term substitute will have pro-rated
employee leaves to include bereavement, sick leave and personal leave. The leaves do not
accumulate.
