406.4 Extra Duty Assignments

Code No. 406.4

An employee may volunteer or be required, depending on a given situation, to take on extra duty position, with the extra duty being secondary to the major responsibility of the employee. The board will establish a salary schedule for extra duty employee positions, keeping in mind the financial condition of the school district, the education and experience of the employee, the educational philosophy of the school district, and other considerations as determined by the board. (DCCSD Board Policy 406.1)

• In order to qualify for the salary, the position must be contracted.

• In the event of a reduced program, the above salary schedule amount may be reduced by mutual consent with the employee.

• When a person currently on staff changes positions in the same activity, he or she shall not lose steps.

• At the time of initial employment in this district, a person may be allowed experience credits equal to half the amount of steps on the schedule.

In the event a supplemental position cannot be filled by a certified staff member, a coaching or assistant coaching position may be assumed by another coach or assistant or be shared by two or more coaches and/or assistants by mutual agreement between them and the Board. The agreement will be for one year only and continuation of the agreement must be by necessity and with mutual consent of the employee(s) involved.

• All employees on supplemental contracts set forth above may elect prior to the first check (September) to receive all compensation for the supplemental activities in the August check. Employees electing to be paid in August and whose supplemental activities have a designated season (denoted by an asterisk * in the schedule) who take a leave without pay will not have their extra-curricular pay reduced unless the leave without pay occurs during the designated season. Employees electing to be paid in August and whose supplemental activities have a designated season (*) and who take a leave without pay during the designated season will have their pay reduced proportional to the length of the designated season.

• All positions on the supplemental schedule will be evaluated. All non-athletic positions on the schedule will be evaluated at the same time and on the same schedule as the person’s teaching position is evaluated. If a non-athletic position is held by a non-teacher, that person shall be evaluated on a 3-year cycle.

• For athletic positions, the 7-12 coaches shall meet with the Varsity coach and evaluator at the beginning of each season to review expectations of the program. Following the end of the season, the Varsity coach and evaluator will review the program during the Varsity coach’s evaluation. Following this meeting, the evaluator and Varsity coach will meet with the 7-12 coaches to evaluate the program.
