(...) 彼[ザッハー=マゾッホ]は、自らの文学作品を通じて切り開いた地平が、未知の快楽と未知の危険の両方が充満した両義的なものである ことを明確に自覚していたのだろう。だから彼は、マゾヒズム――そしてフェティシズム――が近代社会の権力関係をすり抜けて新しい世界(外的な政治的・宗 教的権力から解放されたその世界は確かに、みなが平等で働き者で裕福で清潔な世界かもしれない…)を創出する可能性を示しつつも、他方でそれが実現するは ずの世界を、生ぬるいユートピアとして提示することも決してしなかったのである。
(...) それにしてもなぜ、あたかも光あるところに必ず影が付きまとうように、天上的な存在への崇拝につねに地上的な存在への崇拝が伴う のだろうか。なぜマプーチェの人々は、カマリクンやその他の儀礼を至高神への儀礼として「純化」し、邪霊との取引(カルクトゥン)として疑われるような 「不純な」要素を一掃してしまわないのだろうか。それはおそらく、とりわけ(キリスト教の影響を受ける以前の)伝統的なマプーチェの宗教的思考の中では、 人間存在が本質的に個別的で地上的で物質的だと考えられていたからだろう。(...)
(...) おそらくブニュエルにとって決定的に重要だったのは、人間が具体的・物質的にしか存在しえないという根本的事実であり、彼はだか ら、作品の中で人物から社会的な地位や役割を剥ぎ取り、彼らが生身の肉体を持った人間として行動するような状況を繰り返し作り出したのである。その意味 で、我々は彼の映画を、存在論的フェティシズムの映画、ないし存在論的テリトリー論の映画と形容することができるかもしれない。
(...) あたかも昆虫か動物のように、ラス・ウルデスのテリトリーに張り付いて離れない人々。彼らにとって、ラス・ウルデスの地そのもの が、自らの存在の物質的基盤としてのフェティッシュであり、そこで繰り広げられる「事物との濃密で幻想的な関係」が、彼らの人生の全てなのだ… (...) これは本当にラス・ウルデスだけの話なのだろうか。我々自身の生活においても、その様々な局面において、様々な意味あいにおいて、ラス・ウルデスが存在し ている――あるいは《皆殺しの天使》が寓話的に示しているように、潜在的な形で存在している――のではないだろうか。
(...) このように見るなら、常識的にはラス・ウルデスのようなテリトリーへの固着の正反対とみなされがちな今日のグローバル化も、地球 規模で展開する「不毛なテリトリー」への固着――それをマルクスに敬意を表し、しかしマルクスの用語法からは離れつつ、「商品のフェティシズム」および 「貨幣のフェティシズム」と呼んでもいいかもしれない――と考えることができるように思われる。
