Summer Prairie

Full of life

The summer prairie is buzzing with insect life. I take my camera with me everyday to see what new species I can find to record on iNaturalist.org which helps with identification. The prairie is 25 years old, and evolves every year. Propagation is all plant generated now. I enjoy observing how each species chooses to fill in open spaces. New species, like Tall Coreopsis and Brown-Eyed Susan, were brought in by birds which has been incredible. White-tailed deer fawns use the paths to chase each other through the prairie. Rabbits, snakes and sparrows use the height for cover. I walk very slowly along these paths. The slower you move, the more you see and hear.
