Aug 23 - second to last wave

A couple years ago, I mistakenly planted Rudbeckia subtomentosa, Sweet Black-eyed Susan, seeds in my new, short-grass prairie.

After the 5' tall plants matured, they were joined by equally tall, Pale yellow coneflowers, that had spread from the neighboring area.

This turned out to be a beautiful and complimentary combination-

As soon as the Pale yellow coneflowers begin to fade, the Sweet Black-eyed Susans take over with even brighter color, next to most of the warm weather grasses.

This is the second to last wave of blooms- the final show will be Button or Cylindrical Blazing Star and the Goldenrods.

So glad the tall Black-eyed Susans are there- they are a bright addition to an otherwise fading landscape.

I have trimmed out smaller areas to feature the shorter plants, who were hidden, so they are noticed also.

Now we have in-and-out patterns of tall and short; It looks good and feels good adjusting to what nature brings.
