July 8 - the B's

Butterfly Weed, Bee Balm and Black-eyed Susan blooms dominate the prairie; but the most beautiful combination of the day, was at Moraine Hills State Park where Little Bluestem was growing next to Purple Prairie Clover. Bunches of rose-purple spikes interspersed between mounds of blue-green leaf blades created a delicate palette worth recreating.

The prairie on our property has an area with a lot of Purple Prairie Clover, the area has yet to bloom- but this fall, I will over seed the area with Little Bluestem, and see if I can get a similar effect.

There are not many butterflies around- so I was excited to get one photo of an orange fritillary who opened it's wings for me on a pine.
