July 30 - Butterflies are free

Post date: Jul 30, 2011 1:51:33 PM

What a month- so dry, even some of the prairie plants were showing stress; Then the storms came.

We received at least 8 inches of rain in 10 days- all is well in the plant world, except for several trees that were damaged from high winds.

To our delight, butterflies are abundant in the prairie lately- many times, in one view, you can see 4 or 5 at a time.

Most fun is seeing 2 or 3 pair up to fly spiraling up into the air as fast as they can go.

Bee Balm blooms have faded and Yellow coneflower, Echinacia and Rattlesnake master are dominant- the tall grasses are starting to gain in height.

Sweet Black-eyed Susan is five feet tall and ready to bloom.

Looking forward to natural yard walks the next 2 weekends.
