July 20 - WOW

Finally, blissfully- we had 1.5 inches of rainfall, with significant wind, thunder and lightening- I was glued to the sunroom windows, watching the show with all the lights turned off.

The next day, I took a tour of the prairie and woodlands to see the affects, and was greeted with renewed vigor everywhere.

I had given up on the Sweet Black-eyed Susans, left them for dead- but they had revived; truely amazing!

I think I will get blooms and seeds this year after all. Rattlesnake master- also looking good.

After the rain, all of the Blazing Stars decided to bloom; their numbers are high this year- we have multiple clusters of purple spikes everywhere.

Stunning next to the white spikes of Culver's root.

Purple coneflower did not do well in the hot sun, but is doing very well in semi-shade. Stiff goldenrod also looks in good shape.

Prairie dropseed has perked up, it only needed a bit of rain to come back... Little Bluestem has been beautiful throughout the hot days.

My faith is restored in the resiliency of these native plants- truely a gift.

One surprise, I found a single nodding onion in the prairie, where there had been none all these years.....
