2014 June 29 - Butterflies and Dragonflies

Post date: Jun 29, 2014 3:39:16 PM

Butterflies are abundant this year compared to last year, every day is a camera day.

Plenty of rainfall has poised the prairie to burst into dense, clumps of varying colors which is a major attraction from above.

The butterfly weed is especially large and showy, flashing neon orange signals the butterflies to feed lay their eggs and provide food for their larvae.

Monarch, Red admiral, Fritillary, Mourning cloak and Sulphur butterflies are spotted daily which is fun.

The variety of dragonfly wings are great to observe also, I am not able to identify many yet.

Coreopsis is beginning to bloom; Penstemon is beginning to fade.
