Treasure Island Resort & Casino

Treasure Island Hotel & Casino. What you need to know!

Gambling!

Plenty of slots & video poker. They used to have a rep as having some of the best Video Poker machines in town, although I have not checked on that lately. At just 70,000 Square Feet of gaming it’s rather small by strip standards. But the casino is jam packed with machines. Very easy layout getting to and from anywhere once you are on the casino floor.

The place used to be awesome when Steve Wynn built it and connected it over to the Mirage. But once MGM took control, and pulled out all of the Pirate themeing and dumbed down the Pirate Show and made it sexy the place lost all of its soul. Gone was one of the greatest signs in the history of the strip and in was the worlds worse renaming (TI). There are no .. in the name, is it T. I. or TI like in tie? Who knows?

Some, but not a lot of Table & Poker Games. After all the place is smaller than most. All your basics; Blackjack, 3 Card Poker, Baccarat, Craps, Let it Ride, Roulette etc. They also have Let-it-Ride, Pai Gow Poker and more. It’s the strip, if their neighbor has it, they have it! It seems like the fancy digital Giant Wheel is very popular here.

What’s to eat?

Plenty to choose from here. I would not eat at Kahunaville again, I had some of the worse food there in my 2 visits. Whatever you do, do not go there for breakfast! The sausage is terrible, the food is bland and even with a coupon it’s not worth your time.

To simplify your selection the following have been rated for value.

As Vegas eateries change almost hourly you might want to double check if these places are still in operation. This blog is very lazy with updates...

Cheap (reasonably priced for what you get). ‘Bout what you’d expect (if you don’t understand this you should stick to McDonalds). Holy Shit! (Unless you are used to your bill looking like your phone number stay away)

Now at TI the food options are overpriced for what you get. So I’m not rating all of them. They are neither cheap nor what you would expect to pay. It’s all on the higher side. So if it’s not rated, it’s too much for what it is. In no particular order.

  • Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Cheap

  • Canter's DeliDeli DUH! ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Courtyard GrilleAmerican ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Gilley's BBQ - Barbeque ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Isla Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar - Mexican

  • Kahunaville - Casual / American ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Phil's Italian Steakhouse - Steak House / Italian

  • Senor Frogs - Mexican

  • Starbucks Coffee Cheap

  • The Buffet At TI

  • The Coffee Shop - Cafe

  • Pizzeria Francesco's - Cuisine: Pizza / Italian Cheap

  • Pho Vietnamese Cuisine - Vietnamese

Hotel

All rooms have been recently updated and all are pretty nice. Sure some are larger than the others, but most come with great views!

View from our room.

The Room Basics

The standard rooms at Treasure Island are just fine, before MGM sold the place a couple years ago to fund City Center they sunk some coin in here. Granite counter tops in the baths, new furniture in the rooms. But the beds are the show stopper. Very comfortable pillow top mattresses. You have a flat screen TV, a little writing desk and plenty of room to store your shit. The décor is modern, and you get plenty of channels on the TV.

What you need to know.

Resort fees! Yup, even though this place is independent they took a queue from the big guys and tagged you with that $20.00 stick up your ass. But they actually give you some value with your rape, I mean fee. They pretty much give you what you expect (Gym, internet etc) but also give you an offsetting credit for the full amount on your return stay, which they will charge you for it again. It’s a vicious cycle.

If you are not facing the strip you are going to be looking at the mountains behind you. This doesn’t seem so bad. Except those room seem to have a train that runs at all kinds of weird hours and you can hear that fucking horn pretty clearly in your room. This has happened to us twice now.

In closing:

TI is very liberal with their room comps, so if you plan on staying here and give them some OK play you should get plenty of offers in the future. The petite suites are very nice, and compared to most places on the strip they are a good value. With its central location near most of the nicer resorts (Venetian, Wynn, Mirage etc) you should get a great view and plenty of nearby attractions you can hoof it to. Don’t get too excited about the pool. It’s small. Very well kept but when Wynn built the place they let you get into the mega-pool at Mirage for free if you stayed here. Even he knew it was kinda shitty. Free tram over to Mirage and you can hop right over to the Fashion Show Mall pretty easy from here as well.

Funny Story time!

I got hit with something nasty at El Segundo Sol's. Its right across from TI in the fashion show mall. The food was good so I won’t put them on my ban list. But something might have been bad about the meat on my nachos. I thought it would be funny to let out a little fart to embarrass my wife while we were walking past the Fashion Show on the way back to our room at TI. But that fart was a liar! I'll stop the story there but I also want to note that I ended up throwing away my undies in the garbage can next to the elevator after I freshened up in our room. So if anyone else stayed at TI in February earlier in early 2011 and smelled something bad. Don’t blame the hotel!

What else you need to know?

They do have a Spa (Wet) & Wedding Chapel that I actually got married in. Very classy joint!

Major attractions.

As Vegas shows change almost hourly you might want to double check if these are still in operation. This blog is very lazy with updates...

Gilley’s Saloon, Dance Hall & BBQ. Why is a BBQ joint on my list of attractions? For a Honkey Tonk joint they get plenty of acts together to perform in here. The food is good as well!

Cirque Mystere. One of the smaller Cirque shows, and the only one not at an MGM property. It’s a fun show to be had. Much more intimate than the larger showrooms in town, so you can actually see what is going on. The show has been running for years, so people must seem to like it. Quick tip, a few times while we were staying there, they would call the room and ask if we wanted discount tickets for it. The rub is, it’s always the same day of the show. So if they don’t sell out, they dump the tickets on the cheap to hotel guests.

Treasure Island Theater. All the top talent in the country pop in here so check the box office to see who is there during your stay.

Sirens of TI. This is the free Pirate show in front of the place. If it wasn’t free I’d tell you to avoid it. What was once Her Majesty’s Royal Navy fighting it out with blood thirsty pirates has now become a sexy Sirens and said Pirates show. It’s absurd to say the least. The songs suck and even the cast knows it’s silly. They tried sexing up the place by switching the show around, but all it did was make people laugh and leave.

What did a hundo get us?

We played through five $20.00 bills on various machines. If we bet $1.00 a spin, we give em 20 spins and cash out. $2.00 per spin is 10 spins. If you can’t wrap your brain around this math, please do not gamble. I am sure this test of the slots is insanely scientific. But your actual millage may vary.

1st machine: Bier Haus with a pinball bonus top box. $1.00 a spin. Cashed out with $4.40. Major hits, none. It sucked.

2nd machine: Three Kings. $1.25 Max Bet. Cashed out with $8.16 Major hit none. This is a bonus or nothing type game. Now I have a stupid 16 cents showing on my ticket!

3rd machine: Spin & Win. $3.00 Max Bet. Cashed out with $6.00 Major hit none got paid on bars twice. I actually had $1.00 I didn’t play since I didn’t have enough of the test money for Max Bet.

4th machine: China Shores. $0.90 a spin. Cashed out with $4.14 Major hit, nothing really. But now I have 14 cents to add to my 16 cents and get a normal number back.

5th machine Buffalo. $0.90 a spin. Cashed out $16.40 Major Hit, free games bonus.

Total results. Turning $100.00 into $39.10 in 35 minutes seemed pretty easy. Assuming my math is correct, everyone that plays in TI is bound to end up broke.
