Monte Carlo Resort & Casino Las Vegas

Monte Carlo Resort & Casino Las Vegas. What you need to know!

UPDATE 2017!

Monte Carlo is currently being rebranded as Park MGM.

The Grid Report

Gambling!

They boast over 2,100 gambling machines in 102,000 Square Feet of casino excitement.

With 74 table & Poker Games you can find all your basics; Blackjack, 3 Card Poker, Baccarat, Craps, Let it Ride, Roulette etc. They also have Mini-Baccarat, Let-it-Ride, Pai Gow Poker and more. It’s the strip, if their neighbor has it, they have it!

Monte Carlo has never stood out from the pack. And it’s a shame since it’s a really nice joint. Kinda like a baby Bellagio with its Italianesque themeing. But the place is always quite dead in here. I like it since I like gambling without people staring at me. And I hate having to shout “Who you calling crazy!” every time an old lady walks by me to keep people away.

The casino is bright and spacious, but feels smaller than it is due to its lower ceilings (by Vegas standards). Everything is easy to get to in here. The restaurants are off the casino floor, as are the showrooms, mall and food court.

What’s to eat?

The Monte has a great food court and plenty of dining options. Dragon Noodle is pretty good, not a great value and I always leave hungry cause I’m cheap. But its right there on the casino floor and it’s usually not busy, like the rest of the joint. If you think you are going to score a $1.00 ice cream cone at McDonalds think again! They don’t sell them here either! The pub is very good and well worth your time.

To simplify your selection the following have been rated for value.

As Vegas eateries change almost hourly you might want to double check if these places are still in operation. This blog is very lazy with updates...

Cheap (reasonably priced for what you get). ‘Bout what you’d expect (if you don’t understand this you should stick to McDonalds). Holy Shit! (Unless you are used to your bill looking like your phone number stay away)

In no particular.

  • BRAND Steak House - Steak ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Cafe - ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • D.Vino - Italian ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Diablo's Cantina – Mexican ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Dragon Noodle Company - Asian ‘Bout what you’d expect

  • Haagen Daz – Ice cream Cheap

  • Manchu Wok - Fast Food - Asian Cheap

  • McDonald's - Fast Food Cheap

  • Monte Carlo Buffet - ‘Bout what you’d expect

The Room Basics

Now admittedly it’s been a few years since I stayed here. And for good reason. My room, while average in size, was beat to hell. I never cry over a free room so I took my medicine. But it was pretty bad. The bed was lumpy, the pillows shot and the furniture was mostly trashed. A few scratches here or there? Sure, that happens. But it looked like someone took a baseball bat to the place. The trim on the doors was cracked and peeling, the molding along the baseboards were missing in some parts and the carpet was dirty. I might have just gotten a bad room, but I have yet to hear from anyone about a recent remodel of the base rooms here. Hotel 32 on the other hand is supposed to be pretty nice. Considering a fire gutted the top level of Monte Carlo a few years ago they made a hotel within a hotel out of the wreckage.

What you need to know.

Considering how nice and clean the lobby and the rest of the resort was I was surprised at just how shabby my room turned out to be. We had high hopes staying here but were ultimately disappointed in the end.

Also, Luxor is, as far as I know, the only place stupid enough to let Time Share Hawkers on their casino floor. These people are everywhere in here, and that alone is reason enough for me to stay elsewhere. They jump you in the check in lines with their siren call of free show tickets, or cash money. They pounce on you when you enter in from the people movers from Excalibur. But what sickens me most, when I am gambling they are right there on the casino floor.

In closing:

Monte Carlo features a great little mall tucked away in the back. Most people don’t even know it’s there. They call it the Streets of Dreams, which in itself is a stretch. It’s no Forum Shop, rather small but very shoppable. You can also connect over to the free monorail that skips you over to City Center, Aria and Bellagio. But if you just want to get to Aria, it’s actually connected now to the Monte. Just walk through the mall, go up the escalators at the end and instead of turning left to the monorail landing keeping walking straight. It will take you right into Aria. They would rather funnel you into City Center itself, since they are trying to get suckers in there. But you are no fool!

What else you need to know?

They do have a Spa & a wedding chapel but that is about it. The pool on the other hand is great! Surprising since the rest of the resort is nice, but rather bland. Walk to the back of the resort and you can peep in on all the happy swimmers and see for yourself.

Major attractions.

None really. They do have the Jaberwaukees (I’m too lazy to look up the correct spelling) which is a dance troop. They got bounced from the MGM and landed here. Outside of that there is an Ice Bar that looks fun and they do have a lounge with free performances.

What did a hundo get us?

We played through five $20.00 bills on various machines. If we bet $1.00 a spin, we give em 20 spins and cash out. $2.00 per spin is 10 spins. If you can’t wrap your brain around this math, please do not gamble. I am sure this test of the slots is insanely scientific. But your actual millage may vary.

1st machine: Double Top Dollar. $2.00 max bet. Cashed out with $50.00. Major hit $$25.00 X 2 in the bonus, on our last spin.

2nd machine: King of Cash. $0.75 Max Bet. Cashed out with $15.50 Major hit none. Bonus game, 50 quarters.

3rd machine: Spin & Win. $1.25 Max bet Cashed out with $22.00 Major hit Instant Spin for 75 quarters.

4th machine: Spin & Win. $3.00 Max Bet. Cashed out with $2.00 Major hit none, these can be fickle.

5th machine Spin & Win. $3.00 Max Bet. Cashed out with $56.00 Major hit, Instant Pay $50.00

Total results. Turning $100.00 into $145.50 in 20 minutes seemed pretty easy. Assuming my math is correct, everyone that plays at the Monte is bound to end up filthy rich! Sure we played more Instant Spin here than any other game. But since we hit on one for $10,365.00 once we keep hacking away!
