Casino Review: Horseshoe Hammond IN

Horseshoe Casino Hammond Indiana

About 20 minutes from downtown Chicago (Heading East)

The casino here is large and top notch. It "feels" like a Vegas experience. The best buffet out of any casino in the market, hands down. The Total Rewards card, and all those perks, come in to play as well. While Harrah's in Joliet has about 900 machines, the Horseshoe in Hammond has over 3,000!

Plenty of dining options on property. I'd visit them more often if they actually had a hotel room. I like to play, eat, shit, rest, then play. Maybe bang my sweetie in between those. In other words, I like a room. At the very least so I can shit in peace after gorging at the buffet. The slots are plentiful, but mighty tight. Under 90% payback here.

The casino area alone puts it in my top 5. What it doesn't have, beyond a hotel, is anything else to see or do. You park, you gamble, you eat, you leave. Maybe stay for a show, if they have one that week. Nothing around the area except gas stations, fast food and a Walmart.

Welcome to the "Shoe"

It sits on a massive barge in Lake Michigan. Notice it sits next to a marina. So if you are a fat cat that likes to sail your way to a casino, you are in luck!

From the parking complex you can see Downtown Chicago. Sadly, that is all you can see. The immediate area around the Horseshoe has nothing for you. And to be honest, it is sort of Ghetto.

Look at just part of the casino floor. The casino would fit right in anywhere in Vegas. In fact, it is actually larger, and has more machines, than most places on the Strip.

The recently opened up a food court on the casino floor. I guess $12.00 latte's earn more revenue these days than a penny slot. They probably took out a good 200 machines to make way for this.

Behind, whatever the fuck this flower thing is, sits their buffet. It is good. Really good. Something for everyone with over a half dozen different sections. This is the main eatery here, so it is built to withstand the masses. It pretty much takes up the entire second floor of the casino barge.

This will be the only time I steer you towards a slot machine in Chicago. May I present to you, Mystic Lamp. This older machine can usually be found in a penny flavor around the country. But the Horseshoe has the only Dollar Denom one I have ever seen.

The smaller hits are steady, the points rack up fast and the bonus is fairly frequent. While your millage may vary, I usually do well on these. They have been sitting on their casino floor since the day they opened.

Some Fast facts on the property:

Not a whole lot to do on property but eat and gamble. BUT the gamble part is the show stealer. It's massive 350,000 SQFT gaming space is one of the largest anywhere! Over 3,000 slots, 250 Video Poker machines and 100 table games!

This will also be your best place to play live poker. And the large event center usually has something going on. but be warned, it is usually Motown related. And that is not for me...

Exploring the neighborhood!

Don't. Just don't leave the casino. The area around it is a dump. You probably wont get shot, but there is nothing to see. Hop off the Skybridge from Chicago, go straight there and go home.

You are perfectly safe in the casino, just don't be a fool and try to day trip near here. After all, Downtown Chicago is only 20 minutes away!
