Trip Report: Four Winds Casino New Buffalo MI

New to my blog is a series of Chicagoland gaming Trip Reports. I'm going to apologize in advance, I never intended on making a report out of an average slumber party to one of my "Locals". So pictures of the properties themselves are a little lacking right now. I'll try to do better in the future since many people have showed interest in what Midwest gaming is like.

Without further interruption... A Day at The Four Winds Casino & Resort in New Buffalo Michigan.

The players, Mr. & Mrs. Grid. For the first time in 4 years we left the kids with their Godparents for the night and we headed out to gamble like Gownups!

A quick Sunday afternoon sleepover with a Monday morning checkout. Plenty of time to do up the resort.

A quick summary on the Four Winds, the place is big. Full blown resort with a Hard Rock Cafe, outdoor pool, over 3,000 machines with shops, an arcade and a great hotel.

All we have time for is eating, gambling and some sexy time.

Sunday

Check-in is fast. Everyone here is always so nice and friendly. Decent upgrade to a mini suite and we were off to start our adventure. For today, I have $150 in free play and 2 free buffets + a gift, some folding chair.

The room is nice, king size bed, a big TV and a sitting area...

Free drinks waiting in the mini bar...

Nice Jacuzzi style soaking tub, plenty of room for the both of us.

Checked in and hungry, we head over to the buffet. It was, as it always is, just OK. For free, it is great. But if I had to pay $34.99 each for this, I wouldn't be happy. It isn't that the food is bad, its just that I don't eat most of what they offer. Being Seafood night, I was limited to mashed and gravy plus some ice cream. I found enough to get my fill and we moved on...

Wasting no time, and free of the "Mom I'm hungry" & "Dad, why do farts smell" that so often clutter up out get-a-ways. We head over to hit the casino.

I wont lie, I bombed fast. When you max bet you have to have the stomach for the waves that come with slot playing.

I was down $300 in a blink before I finally did something on Elvira.

From there on I was on fire! A couple of decent bonus on Powerball and I had all of my money back!

Move over to Cash Wheel and I get some more.

Some decent luck on Quick Hits and I went from -$300 to +$132.

We played around some more before I finally got an OK bonus on this Tower 7's game. I took what was once a $32 TITO (After losing 2 $100 bills) and now I'm walking around with a $600.00 one.

I grind that down to $500 on the below before getting a bonus of $90.40. Pretty much right back to my $600 by this point.

It seems like everything I touch turns to gold, but sadly everything she touched turns to shit.

A nice $167 bonus on this Anthony and Cleopatra Multi Media game.

And a first spin hit of $96 on this game I only played since the wife was playing near by.

I finally cash out that TITO for $718.40. That puts That puts me up $500 for the session. Time to hit the Jacuzzi!

Part II

Come back down to shop awhile, they have about 4 stores lining the main entry way.

Not finding anything to piss away our comp dollars on, we head over to gamble.

A couple hours later and I slowly bleed out a hundo before catching the below. I was one row of Tigers away from a handpay. But I'll take it!

End up playing most of that $400 ticket down before catching these next two hits.

Same up and down on random machines. I keep getting enough big hits to keep me positive though. Got up to $625 at one time and took that down to $450 after a good hour.

We head over to the "Bus Terminal" Casino and play a few older favorites. I have been playing Leopard Spots for nearly 10 years now. I don't spend much time on it, I just wanted to see the bonus. Nothing on youtube, that I can find, so the only way to satisfy my curiosity is to play it.

I have been making $5.00 bets all day, but I played just 2 bucks on it since 3 dozen previous sessions ended with no bonus. But today was the day! That 2 bucks turned into $165 within the first few minutes.

Played that down by losing on Count Money before finally catching a break for a hundo on Cleo.

Back to the main casino and I expected so much more from this bonus. Considering my $6 bet, I didn't hit very much. But a win is a win!

Hit our favorite bank of Incredible Technologies slots and rack up a ton of points. Say what you will about IT, getting a handpay is harder than fuck but you get plenty of play through on their machines.

I was chasing the below all night. It took $160.00 off my earlier in the day. That lead to my $300 downfall to start the trip. And I was $240 in before finally getting the bonus.

I ended up winning $325 with just 13 bucks left in the machine. But overall, I was a loser on this one. But still, I went from a $400 loser to a $50 loser and that aint half bad.

We call it a night after that. After playing through $11,000 on the machines, I was up just over $500. I did give the wife $60 so she could keep playing with me, but she made that go "poof" as well. No luck for her.

Monday

I wake up at 6AM, stupid body clock. Without the kids climbing all over her, the wife is sound asleep. So I freshen up and head downstairs alone. Ladies, when you freshen up in the morning, that usually includes a shower, some makeup, doing your hair and taking a tinkle. For Dudes, it means we took a shit, put on our shoes and MAYBE brushed our teeth.

A quick look at the just SOME of the casino floor. This place is pretty fucking big.

So I went from awake to gambling in 20 minutes flat. 6AM my time is really 7AM local time, you barely cross the time zone from Chicago when you get here. So at 7:30AM I have the casino to myself.

The plan is to fart around and amuse myself while the wife sleeps. Wait until 8AM local and cash in my next batch of free play. That's another $150 for those of you playing at home.

I play some video poker and do OK. I end up converting my free play into $130 in "real" money. But I piss that away on the newest Michael Jackson slot. Reach for another hundo and get all the way down to $30 bucks left before hitting the below in a bonus.

Same up and down as always. I had a $200 ticket and rode that down to $10 chasing a must hit progressive on the below. I ended up with a bonus game that nearly brought me back to good..

I'm not doing bad, but I'm slowly losing my winnings from last night. As a gambler, we think of the stupidest math when reasoning with ourselves on when to stop playing.

"Well, I won $200 last month, so that money can be played and it wont really count". "I did get $50 off at that Ikea sale, so that is pretty much free money to play with"

Well, today it was "I was up $500, so if I just lose $400 I'd still be up!" And that was sadly the way it was looking.

I was down and out with my profit by the time I hit the below for $100. The wife was still sleeping, if anything she would be my scapegoat for losing. "Yeah I know I was up $500, but you left me alone for 3 hours!" "What did you think would happen?"

If I lose this $127 ticket I'd go home up $100. $100 of their money, plus the suite, plus the 2 buffets last night, the 2 meals today, a lovely baking set (the stupid chair was sold out), Point Play worth $80.00 and I had $300 in free play.

That sounds like a winning weekend to me!

But Lady Luck took pity on me. With that TITO in hand I hit decent on this Super Times Pay. One more Multiplier and it would have been handpay city! If that fucking 7 were just up a tick I would have had almost a grand.

But $455 on a $5.00 bet is pretty good! I cash that ticket out and stick $400 in my wallet. Now I'm back to where I started from this morning. Up $500.

I text the wife, and she is just getting out of the shower. I guess a long hot shower is nice for a Mom. Who knew?

I have about 30 minutes to kill and for the first time this trip these new IT games are open.

I mentioned before that I love their games. What I don't love is when their machines freak out in advance of a "good" hit and you expect something decent. Only to see an $8.00 hit on your $3.00 bet. Beyond Lame.

So when this one started freaking out, I didn't think too much about it. But I ended up hitting for $103. That is a good freak out.

About a dozen spins later, and another freak out, I hit for $195.00. That's pretty solid for 5 minutes of work.

Normally I would cash out here. the "Luck" has been spent. But these machines are right near the buffet sooo.... I keep playing

Five Spins later, no freak out, so I didn't expect to hit a progressive. If all the reels turn the same color, you win one of 4 progressives. I had hit the "Red" almost as soon as I sat down for like 17 and change.

This time, it was the Gold for $364. That put me up nearly $500 in literally 7 minutes on this game. Add in the $400 on the Super Times pay immediately before I sat down here, and that's $900 in the last 15 minutes of the trip.

The wife came down just as I was cashing out.

The buffet doesn't open until noon, who knew? So we opt for a $40 dining credit and eat breakfast as I count my nearly $1,000 in winnings in front of the wife.

Turns out my kids, who usually come with us when we do a casino weekend, were a jinx! Now I know! In the end we ran through $16,000 of coin for the trip. That should keep the offers coming and give me a reason to go back and take some proper pictures for you guys.
