Casino Review: Four Winds Resort MI

Four Winds Resort Casino & Hotel New Buffalo Michigan

90 minutes from downtown Chicago (Heading East)

"The Winds", as we call it, is as close to Vegas as you are going to get in Chicagoland. Over 3,000 machines, more than 60 table games, 3 casinos under one roof and 130,000 SQFT of gaming.

The main casino takes up the bulk of the space. There is also a non-smoking casino near the hotel check-in, with sliding glass doors that truly give you a break from all the dirty smokers out there (of which I am one of them). And casino #3 is located near the shuttle buss drop off.

Who knows what they payback, them there Injuns won't ever tell you. But the fact that they are located just a few miles down the road from a competing casino, and they need to draw that Chicago money across 3 state lines, means they should be fair.

I usually do OK here. Unlike the Horseshoe, where I feel like I'm getting robbed while playing most of the time. 4W "feels" fair. I just have no way to prove that. So the casino is big, that's a plus.

The free play is more than I get from any other local place, even though my habits and bankroll are always the same. The free giveaway's are really decent crap as well. GoPro's, TV's, Drones ETC. Unlike the other casinos nearby, you can actually do something with these weekly offers.

The dining is great. The buffet is solid, but not a show stopper. They have a full on Hard Rock Cafe on property, and connected to the casino. The Steakhouse (Copper Rock) is top notch, but we spend most of our time eating at Timbers. It is a casual joint, open to the casino so you can watch the ants scurry around. Very good comfort food at very good prices.

And every single one of their rooms is nice. This is a newer resort after all, so everything is clean & modern. But be warned, if you are actually paying out of pocket, they will absolutely fuck you on rates. Play a little in the casino and the discounts or comps will start coming.

Meet the Four Winds

The hotel rooms are the best around and very easy to score a suite with enough play. They have a great outdoor pool and hot tub. Complete with cabanas and outdoor eating/drinking, just like Vegas. Some shops along the main casino area plus an arcade, with Kid's Quest for the youngen's.

4W has everything you could want in a full blown casino resort.

The buffet, while uninspiring, will certainly get the job done.

They do have a few shops to keep you busy during a gambling break.

Needs a place to drop off the kids? They have a Kid's Quest on property for some supervised kiddie attending. Have older kids that can take care of themselves? Let them loose in the arcade.

Some Fast facts on the property:

They do have an Event Center (Silver Creek) that is always drawing in top headliners.

The Hard Rock Cafe also has a space for bands to play, but it is usually local talent. Not that that is a bad thing, it is free after all.

The W♣ Players Club wont get you diddly shit in Vegas, but that card does work at their other casinos around New Buffalo. Hartford & Dowagiac Michigan both have smaller satellite casinos. And they will soon be opening another larger resort & casino in Southbend Indiana. Business must be good!

Hungry? They have 6 places to eat here:

Savor a USDA Prime 42-day dry aged steak, succulent cold water lobster, gourmet desserts and more, paired with a selection from a wine list so vast it has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence seven years in a row.
