This week we will only have a skills assessment for 4th and 5th grade and that will be the skill of an overhand serve for volleyball. Below is a video to help you with that assessment. Mr. Nolan (Washington - Physical Education Teacher) also has a video that demonstrates that skill as well.
This week the weather has been windy, but generally nice for this time of year. As we get to the end of the school year I stress with my students the ability for them to walk longer distances as part of our class time. This is important as we get closer to Summer so you can go on walks or bike rides to places where you can play (playgrounds, walking / hiking trails. There are a number of places right here in rapids that have great walking trails including Nepco , Wazeecha,(maps for located at the bottom of this page) or even the bike trail along the expressway from Lincoln High School. Your challenge this week for all grades is to get outside and do a longer distance walk. Try to shoot for around 1 mile or more. If it has been some time since you have done a longer walk, start small and gradually increase your distance every couple of days. Some playgrounds in the area that you may want to check out include ACT Playground located at Grove Elementary School (471 Grove Ave), Witter Field Recreation Center Playground located between the Aquatic Center and Witter Field (681 Chestnut St.). If you want to venture out of town, Stevens Point has a giant playground called KASH Park ( 1224 W Whitney St, Stevens Point ). There are images below of all three of those playgrounds.
Along with these pictures I will post a 30 Day Walking Challenge that you can use to track your walks and help to increase your endurance. If you don't want to follow this example you could just try to work in the family walks as part of your daily routine.
