“For every drop of water you waste, you must know that somewhere on earth, someone is desperately looking for a drop of water!”-- Mehmet Murat Ildan’s. The water crisis has affected the whole world. Some places that have been infected are Flint MI, Africa, and Cape Town.
On April 25, 2014 officials from Flint, MI switched the city's water supply to the Flint River as their new water source. They did this to save money so they can put new pipes in for the old ones, If they put new pipes in The estimated price is 7,500 dollars per house to change the water lines. They saw that there is a river closer to them so they don't have to go to Detroit. In doing so, they introduced lead-poisoned water into homes, in what would become a massive public-health crisis. It would take 55 million dollars to get clean piping, to get access to clean water. Flint river started to flow to the city in April 25.
Residents say that the water smelled and looked funny. On a hot day in the summer of 2014, in the Civic Park neighbourhood where Pastor R Sherman McCathern preached in Flint, Michigan, water rushed out of a couple of fire hydrants. Puddles formed on the dry grass and splashed the skin of the delighted kids who ran through it. But the spray looked strange. “The water was coming out dark as coffee for hours,” McCathern remembered. They saw lead in the water then the goverment said "The water wasn't safe to drink know". The water is not safe to drink because it can give people a disease. There water is safe to drink now, They use bottled water and sometimes from Flint River.
Climate change has affected the water supplies within the region. Those in rural areas still lack access to water. One report stated that in 2008 about 5 million people lack access to water and 15 million lack access to basic sanitation. The causes that might happen when they drink dirty water is that Vomiting, diarrhea, sick stomach, skin rashes, and Cancer (Some kinds of cancer, like leukemia, can happen after drinking bad water for a long period of time). Some children can die at 5 years old from the dirty water.
Children don’t get the best places to dig. There’s a larger, more productive waterhole 50 yards further on. There, women fill jerry cans, bathe their babies, wash clothes, and watch their cattle drink. The driest time of year is coming, months when there is no rain. As it gets drier, digging becomes serious business for adults.
One place where the water crisis went down is Cape Town. Cape Town normally receives about 31 inches of rain per year that is not much rain and because it receives most of its rainfall during winter it has a Mediterranean climate. Cape Town will run out of water in a matter of months. The water drains into streams and rivers, and flows downhill towards the sea in rivers such as the Berg, Riviersonderend, Palmiet and Steenbras. Some of this water is captured and stored in dams that supply the Cape Town water system and the rest is returned to the rivers to sustain the river systems. This helps the water crisis because it hold water for the people to get water easier.
People in Cape town get sick because of how dirty the water is. They cant take showers or wash their hands. That is what make the people in Cape town sick. When they go to the bathroom they cant flush the toilets. They dont have enough water to drink, so that will give them headaches and they will get dehydrated. Had it not been for good water consumption management by the City, the current crisis could have hit much earlier.
The places were the water crisis Is Flint,MI, Capetown, and Africa. We need to help them get clean water so they can get a better life.
