Did you know an estimated amount of 12.6 million people died in 2012 because of environmental factors such as Marine, Air, and Ground pollution. And 100,000 marine animals die per year from water pollution. This is about these types of pollution.

Marine Pollution

Marine pollution is a big problem. Over 1.2 Trillion gallons of storm water, sewage, and industrial waste gets dumped into U.S water per year. This is very harmful to the environment because it can affect the organisms in the water and can kill fish along with birds if they eat it.

Marine pollution is also very harmful to sea organisms. 100k marine animals such as fish, and sea turtles die each year due to plastic. And about 1,000,000 sea birds die each year due to plastic. There is a total of 6 Billion plastic bags used in LA per year alone, 2 billion of the 6 gets eaten by marine animals. The food gets mistaken for natural food for whales, birds, and turtles. we need to keep plastic away from the ocean so it doesn't affect the sea animals.

There are many ways to help Marine pollution, like a group of teen activists called Team Marine, located in Santa Monica California, The starter of Team Marine is a high school teacher named Benjamin.K. Team Marine made Eco lesson plans for schools, they even made a environment movie, they did a lot of community service such as picking up trash on beaches, and they also got around 50 people to do a protest to ban plastic bags no the street of Santa Monica.” Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, and Rethink. “ ( Team Marine )

Air Pollution

Air pollution is harmful to the environment too. Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gasses in the air. This is a problem involving air pollution. Smog cloaked its biggest cities, causing at least 90,000 deaths and sickening hundreds of thousands more. Smog is a fog combined with smoke and other pollutants. “The ventilation is getting worse,” says Yuhang Wang, an atmospheric scientist at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. “We think climate change, as it is driving rapid warming of the Arctic, is having a large effect on pollution in China”. China is having a big problem with smog in their air this can give you an idea of how big air pollution is.

There are many ways to help air pollution, Reduce the number of trips you take in your car, Reduce or eliminate fireplace and wood stove use, Avoid burning leaves, trash, and other materials, don't use gas-powered lawn and garden equipment.

There are many dangers of air pollution it has greater risk for older adults, young children, and pregnant women. heart disease, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Ozone, Particulate Matter, Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Oxides, Sulfur Dioxides, and Lead. Each of these can cause breathing problems and can increase asthma symptoms. Ground Pollution

Ground pollution is also known as littering and is a big problem. The total amount of money spent on cleaning up litter is a staggering 11.5 billion, that is a lot of money. the most common piece of trash is fast food and drinks, a lot of the litter is found on roads and highways and in retail, recreational, and residential locations. litter causes harm to people and many animals, damages our waterways, cost us money, and suggests that we do not take care of our environment. That is why litter is such a big problem.There is many Ways to help like things such as, you could volunteer to help clean litter on roads, remind others not to litter and can tell them why, make sure your trash can has a tight lid so it doesn't spill, and report someone if you see them litter. “Littering is knowingly depositing in any manner litter on any public or private property or in any public or private waters, without permission to do so”.

Landfills are also a big part of ground pollution There are many negative issues associated with landfills. Many materials that end up as waste contain toxic substances. “Over time, these toxins leach into our soil and groundwater, and become environmental hazards for years”. When organic material such as food scraps and green waste is put in a landfill, it is compacted down and covered. This removes the oxygen and causes it to break down in an anaerobic process. This makes methane, a greenhouse gas that is more potent than carbon dioxide. The implications for global warming and climate change are enormous. Methane is also a flammable gas that can become dangerous if allowed to build up in concentration. Composting your food scraps and green waste in a compost bin gets rid of many of these issues.
