Did you know that diarrhea kills 1.5 million children per year? That is just one of the terrifying statistics that the water crisis has created. But you can help stop the water crisis by donating to one of these three causes. They are Water.org, Thirst Project, and Charity Water, these are the organizations I will tell you about in this essay. Water.org’s founders are Gary White and Matt Damon(actor). “Over the past 25 years, Gary's entrepreneurial vision has driven innovations in the way water and sanitation projects are delivered and financed, innovations that now serve as a model in the sector”(water.org). Matt Damon is an actor who has starred at least 69 movies and yet still makes time to be the co-founder of Water.org. Water.org has given 16 million people access to clean water with 3.7 million micro loans (water credits). With their 88 partners they have raised over 1 billion dollars for people who didn’t have water before. They have been around for 25 years, working on three continents to provide water to those in need.
Water.org has normal charity then they have water credits. Water credits are micro loans (the average size is $342) that get a water source placed close to them. First they identify a region that has poor sanitation and also where clean accessible water is hard to come by. Then they provide the money the people need to put a tap or toilet into their homes. Water credit is a loan so the money that they use gets paid back (99% of the time the loans gets paid back) and helps another family get water or sanitation. This is a story of someone they have helped: There is a man named Nureni in Indonesia he was able to get a tap in his home by using water credits. Now his wife is able to work so their son is able to go to school and become a motorcycle mechanic.
Little girl in Uganda fetches dirty water with plastic bottle.
Seth Maxwell is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Thirst Project."Since the humble beginnings, Seth has spoken internationally at over 300 schools, countless churches, and numerous conferences including TEDX Hollywood Youth Conference, Global Youth Summit, addressing the United Nations General Assembly, and meeting with Obama Administration Officials at the White House" (Thirstproject). He created Thirst Project by getting 7, 19 year old friends together and they bought 1000 bottles of water. Then they gave people bottles of water to get people to stop then when they asked” Why are you doing this. Then the 19 year olds would say a fact like “Did you know that over 1 billion people live without safe clean water.” Then they asked if the people if they wanted to donate to their charity. Almost all the people gave back for all the water they drank and they raised $1700.
Did you know that more people die from waterborne diseases(3.4 million) than AIDS, malaria, and world violence all put together. Thirst Project’s goal is to end the global water crisis (obviously). To narrow it down they are trying to give the whole Kingdom of Eswatini clean water and sanitation by 2022 and inform young people on the global water crisis . Because the students are the future and they can do the most in the future to help those countries without water.
Scott Harrison is the founder of Charity: Water he started it after a decade of being a nightclub promoter. "Then Scott declared spiritual, moral, and emotional bankruptcy"(Charity Water) Afterword he spent 2 years on a hospital boat off the coast of Liberia and experienced first hand as a photojournalist what dirty water is like. Then went back to New York in 2006 with a mission.
Did you know that about 1 in 10 people in the world don’t have access to clean water. Charity: Water’s mission is to bring clean water and sanitation to the whole world. When they bring a tap, well, or toilet to a community it may bring a market or many farms to that area. They have funded 35,281 projects and given 9,562,163 people clean water. They have 37 local partners and have funded projects in 27 countries. After the tap or the well is community may blossom into a place that other people will come to.
Now that you know that the global water crisis is very serious will you assist Water.org, Thirst Project, and Charity Water in the fight to end it? They need your help!
