⅔ teens are bullied each year. But, there are many ways to prevent bullying. Parents, schools, and kids can do something to prevent bullying.
One way to prevent bullying is to get uniforms at school. People get bullied for what they wear all the time, if we were all to be wearing the same thing, no one could get bullied for what they are wearing. If someone was wearing something that isn’t trendy then they could get bullied for it.
Susan, a 14 year old girl was bullied for wearing “crap trainers.” She was bullied for two years for what she wore.
Another way to prevent bullying is to have bullying programs/clubs. Having programs about bullying can help kids the word out about bullying. Statistics show that 50% of bullying winds down if there is an anti bullying program. We Stop Hate is a bullying program run by Emily Anne Rigal. It is an organization that stops bullying by raising teens self esteem.
One last way to prevent bullying in school is to give better punishments. If kids get an out of school suspension they will take it as a vacation.

One way parents can help prevent bullying is to talk to your kids. Learn how to talk about bullying. Even if your kid is the bully or the one getting bullied, it’s always good to talk. You can talk to them about what bullying is and how to prevent it or to teach them about kindness. Most people who are getting bullied show emotional or behavioral changes. One change that can happen is changes in sleep/eating patterns. Another change that happens is frequent mood swings. This can all tie to being bullied.
Another way parents can prevent bullying is to recognize warning signs. You should talk to your child if they display any behavioral or emotional changes. Gina, the mother of a twelve year old boy, got a surprising call from the boys school. It was that the boy had been bullying other students. This explained a lot to Gina, because her son was displaying signs like being angry, not talking to her about school, and being more tired.
One last way parents can prevent bullying is to get involved with your kid’s school activities like field trips and field day. Statistics show that 67% of bullying happens when adults are not present.
One way kids can prevent bullying is to have private accounts on social media. Private accounts limit the people who can follow you. You get the control of who follows you. This helps because if you know someone who has a reputation of bullying or being mean, you get to decide if she follows you. 42% of people have a private account on social media. Most of the bullying that happens on social media. That is called cyberbullying. Statistics show that 80% of teens have been cyberbullied.
Another thing kids can do to prevent bullying is to speak up. If you are getting bullied it is best to speak up because there could be so many people who have gotten bullied by on person, and you are brave enough to speak up. Only 1/10 people who have gotten bullied have told someone about it. Some people choose to not tell people because they are embarrassed they think that that can get through it by themselves.
One last way kids can help prevent bullying is to stand up for yourselves and others. Standing up to a bully will make the bully see that other people have voices too. Jamie Artman was bullied in middle school for no reason at all. She was picked out of a crowd by a group of boys because she was wearing a necklace with a star pendant. They called her a witch and wouldn’t stop. She finally stood up by saying, “ if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” There is a good way and a bad way to stick up for yourself. One bad way to do this is to be mean about it. One good way to do this is to tell the bully that this is not ok.
Even though bullying is a big problem throughout the world, there are things that parents, schools, and kids can do to prevent it from happening. What will you do to help prevent it?
