Did you know that only 2% of cats are returned to their homes when lost! There are lots of ways animals are abused today and this is because of Neglect, Abuse, and Fighting, and it could come in other forms too.
Sadly there are millions of animals on the street today with no homes. According to the Humane Society of the United States, 6 to 8 million companion animals are admitted to shelters each year! Sadly of those only 3 to 4 million are lucky enough to be adopted into new homes and the other 3 to 4 million are put down because of lack of room in shelters! ‘Stray and feral cats are more problematic than dogs as the dogs do not widely find the resources they need to survive on their own’. Said ( ABOUT STRAY PET ADVOCACY).
Neglect isn't just leaving your animal on the street or kicking them out of your house hoarding is also a type of neglect (the most common age for people to start hoarding is 50). There are 3,500 animal hoarders, an animal hoarder is a person who has a more than typical amount of pets (animals like cats and dogs) this is a big problem because 250,000 animals are affected each year alone. An animal hoarders house will tend to look very dirty and chances are it will smell bad too. It is also bad for the animal too because owners often fail to provide basic care for there animals.
‘When an animal is abused a chain reaction begins in our community not only does an animal get injured the person often falls into a cycle that could ultimately result in violence against other people’. Says ASPCA. You might not think of the zoo as a bad place for animals but there is a condition in zoos called Zoochosis where animals often rock, sway or pace endlessly and sometimes even try to rip their limbs off.
When you think of abuse to animals you probably just think of people at there house abusing animals it also happens at zoos like you just learned but it doesn't stop there it goes to drive through safaris they are constantly breeding new baby animals because they attract more people than adult animals. So they ship the older animals out or put them in hunting grounds! The animals that you can pet are also suffering too because they are forced to interact with people all day and often suffer from lack of water, food, and sleep and this in some cases has led to people getting injured. In the past 26 years, there have been 256 injuries and 33 deaths in zoos from animals attacking the people. Abuse may not be very complicated it can be very simple like the owner of a dog dismayed to hit the dog. Here are some facts to help you better understand animal cruelty. The most common animals are dogs, cats, horses, and livestock. But no matter who or what people do it ‘There is no excuse for animal abuse’.(ASPCA)
Dog fighting is a huge problem in the world as dogs were not made to fight they are here to help with farming like some dogs herd sheep or a service dog. This is also why we need to help stop this did you know that tens of thousands of people are involved in dogfighting and there could be more. People mostly get into the sport because of greed because it is common for 20,000 to 30,000 to change hands in a single fight. It is also illegal in every state so there is no excuse to where you do it. It is also considered a sport!
You still might be asking why people dogfight, it is a type of blood sport where dogs are forced to fight each other for entertainment and profit of spectators. It is a very bad thing in my opinion. What happens to the dogs after the fights you might be asking 16,000 dogs are killed in dog fighting each year! Dogs are treated very badly they are first trained started to be trained before there first birthdays and around 15 months they are forced to fight in a fight called a roll and the first fight lasts 10 minutes and the second one lasts up to an hour! Survives are chained again for a couple of months until their first show. While they are in there dog fighting stage they are trained and the training is just as harmful and as bad as the dog fighting itself. ' Pit bulls, the kind you see at shelters with hopeful eyes and wagging tails. But now they are locked in a kind of slow motion, mortal combat: growling, biting, panting, closing their massive jaws over one another’s snouts and throats" Says dogfighting.
Despite all the people abusing animals and doing other bad things to them, there are good people out there like you and me who can help the animals from Neglect, Abuse, and Fighting. I hope what I have taught you will help you to stand up for the animals that can't stand up for themselves.
