“About 40% of the deaths worldwide are caused by water, air, and soil pollution.” (Lang) There are many things that people do that affect the environment and I'm going to tell you about three air, land, and water pollution.
First, let's talk about air pollution. “Air pollution is is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air that can be man-made or natural, which can have harmful or poisonous effects on the environment or humans.” Somethings that contribute to Air pollution are car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen, and mold spores which might be suspended as particles. Health effects from exposure to polluted air are Asthma, changes in lung function, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, other serious health problems, and even death. We could stop all of the pollution in the air if we stopped burning coal and oil, and car emissions will soon not have a big effect once electric cars are made and become normal.
Now let’s talk about another type of pollution. Land Pollution. Land pollution is the destruction of the earth's land surface, often directly or indirectly as a result of human activities and misuse of the land. Two big things that have large effects on land pollution are waste dumping and construction. Waste dumping especially illegal waste dumping can affect many native species of plants and animals If animals consume waste from the dump sites and construction sites are found both within and around urban and rural areas, often in the close to homes which from all the emissions from there trucks cause a lot of pollution close to homes deeply affecting the people who live there.
Effect of land pollution can have a number of harmful effects on animals and plants like disrupting food chains because an animal ate a plant that was in affected soil then that animal got eaten then the whole food chain would be infected spreading any disease from the chemicals. We could, however, stop Land Pollution if people stopped using fertilizer and cleaning products outside because when these get hit by water they affect the water with chemicals that water travels and gets absorbed by plants and if not absorbed by plants the affected water can travel to a body of water also causing water pollution.
Sewage getting dumped in the water
Finally, it’s time for Water Pollution. What is water pollution? Water pollution happens when harmful substances like chemicals contaminants a water source (lake, river etc) which could have hazardous effects, there are three different types of water pollution this can affect Groundwater, Surface water, and Ocean water, ocean water counts for about 80% and I have no more statistics. Big contributors to water pollution are animal scat, chemicals from farms, towns, and factories where toxic substances can accidentally or illegally get into a water source. Water pollution has major effects on humans some effects on health include illness like typhoid, giardiasis, ascariasis, and death. Water pollution caused 1.8 million deaths in 2015 and illness in 1 billion. This is really common in low-income places because their houses are often closets to the polluted areas. However, water pollution could get solved if people and found a place to put waste so people would stop putting waste in the water and if people stop letting runoff carry chemicals from their gardens from fertilizer and pesticides into the water.
Air, land, and water pollution are major problems around the world but there are always things people like you and me can do to solve this problem.
