Recycled Robot 

Students will create 1 Recycled Robot.

• Recommended Art Activity : Below are the instructions for the month of March Art Project: have fun and enjoy it. It is okay to creatively experiment on the project and use your imagination.  The basic directions are listed below. This project will focus on Process Art.

•  Process Art - art that is child-directed, choice-driven, and celebrates the experience of discovery. In process art, the final product is always unique and the focus lies in the creation of the work, not the outcome. 

The benefits of Process Art to students...

• will think creatively, independently, and imaginatively

• will learn about the physical limitations and possibilities of materials.

• are encouraged to use creative and critical thinking skills.

• will gain confidence to realize their own ideas.

• are motivated to ask questions and experiment.

• will embrace experimentation and mistakes as part of the learning process.

“Recycled Robots” 

• Students will create a robot using both recycled material and new materials. Assistance from an adult is encouraged.

• I have included a Link to a teaching website that provides steps in the process and ideas for materials and designs of the robot.

• Students are encouraged to use any materials that are available to them. 

• Try to create a robot body with a head, torso, 2 arms, and 2 legs.

• The bodies of their robot can be made with cardboard or cereal boxes or food boxes or plastic bottles (soda or water bottles or ½ gallon milk jugs) or brown paper bags or heavy (thick) construction paper.

• To add details to the robots: use crayons or colored pencils or markers or paint or all of the art tools that can create color details on the robot.

• You may also use other items that are recycled such as bottle tops, tinfoil, scraps of paper, paper clips, even small items that are used on crafts (the website link shows examples of those)

• Your robot can be any size.

• NOTE: The website recommends a Puppet Show for students to display and interact with their puppets. I understand that this may not be a possibility at home during this time.
