“Koinobori Fish”
Cultural Heritage for East Asian Culture. Children's Day (May 5)
Students will create a 3-D Koi Fish called Koinobori Windsock for Children's Day in Japan (May 5th)
In Japan, the Koi fish are respected and thought to have qualities of Japanese families and hope that their children will have: Spirited, Strong, and determined with perseverence. Each Koinobori that is made represents a family memeber. They are then hung outside to fly in the wind to look like they are swimming in the air.
NOTE: There is a Youtube video for Children's Day and the Koinobori Windsocks.
