This is a 1-Class project, students should finish it today and take it home at the end of class.Â
Students will be creating an Emoji of their own choice (I have circle tracer tools to assist students with drawing a large circle on their square paper). The Emoji should consist of emotions and facial expressions. The Emojis can have added details like hair, sunglasses, a hat, etc.
First, Introduce the project.
Show the videos below.
Hand students the 9"x9" sheet of square paper from the Emoji Folder.
Call students to the Demonstration Table (Rainbow table) to demonstrate the use of the circle tracer and coloring neatly and completely). You can choose to show the video below instead of a demonstration; however , the demonstration video is 9 minutes and may use up too much of their class time.
They will draw their Emojis with pencils first, then trace them with black Sharpie markers (which are located on the gray shelf in a blue tray marked "Black Sharpies").
Next, they will color-in the emoji they created with colors that match the emotions of the emoji. Students may use Crayons to color their Emojis.
Color the Background area of the Emoji Picture, as well. NOTE: Second Graders may use the Crayola Markers or Oil Crayons in the dark red boxes (1 per table) for coloring instead of crayons. The examples above are done with oil crayons.
NOTE: Closing Questions are at the very bottom of this page. And Example Emojis are at the bottom of this website page.
Students can be asked the questions at the beginning of the lesson/introduction.
What is an Emoji? a small picture that shows emotions.
What do Emojis of faces show? How you feel. Feelings, mood, emotions.
Why would people use emojis instead of writing out how they feel? It's faster.
7. if students complete their Emoji project and their is still a few minutes left in class, they can get 2 Free-Draw papers. DO NOT use Sharpie markers on the Free-Draw.
8. With 5 minutes remaining at the end of class, get the attention of the students and inform them that it is time to clean up. Play the 1 minute cat timer on the Website. At the end of the timer, check for Ready Tables (standing quietly by their stools. Then call up tables 1 at a time.
NOTE: The closing Questions are at the very bottom of this page.
