Abstract Art with Lines, Shapes, Colors, and Patterns
First Grade
“Abstract Art with Shapes, Lines, Colors, and Patterns”
Create an ABSTRACT picture by using Shapes, Colors, Lines(curvy, wavy, straight, zig-zag), and Patterns.
Abstract - Not realistic. A picture made with Lines, Shapes, and Colors.
NOTE: some of the shapes can be recognizable shapes, like hearts, stars, lightning bolts, flowers, etc.
Creating the Artwork
Hand students 1 sheet of the thick art paper from the bottom of the Art-Cart from one of the bottom trays (it's the thicker of the two different white papers).
Use the attached video from below to show students a demonstration of creating an Abstract Art using Lines, Shapes, Colors, and Patterns.
Inform students to begin the artwork with pencil drawings: Draw the shapes, lines, and patterns first by using a pencil (Pencil first so they can erase any mistakes). Inform students not to draw tiny shapes (they will be too hard to trace over with the black crayon and take too long to finish)
Next, trace over the pencil lines with a black crayon or black marker.
Then, color in the newly created shapes and designs they created with any colors they choose. They can use crayons from their art-bags or if the students have markers or color pencils they can use them instead of the crayons.
I have included below (below the video) some pictures of examples of different types of Lines and Patterns. Please display these on the SmartBoard after the video has been played
NOTE: The video is from Square 1 Art. They are NOT creating a Square 1 Art project again. However, I included the video because it is done well with good examples. The video has no sound but is pretty short. I would show the Square 1 Art video and point out all the different lines, shapes and patterns the artist in the video is creating.
It is a Square 1 Art Video. Begin the video at :13 seconds into the video. Remind the students that they are not creating a Square 1 Art project, but it is a good instructional video to help us create our abstract Project.
