“Abstract Landscape with a House by using Lines, Shapes, Colors, and Patterns”

• Create a picture of an amazing Landscape made with Lines (curvy, wavy, straight, zig-zag) Shapes, Colors, and Patterns. 

• Abstract - Not Realistic. Art made with lines, shapes, and colors.

• Landscape - a picture of land (hills, sky, trees, etc.)

• Background - back of the picture.

• Foreground - front of the picture.

Creating the Artwork

• Hand students 1 sheet of the thick art paper from the bottom of the Art-Cart from one of the bottom trays (it's the thicker of the two different white papers). They can create their project with the paper either vertical or horizontal.

• Use the attached video from below to show students a demonstration of creating an Abstract Landscape with a House by using Lines, Shapes, Colors, and Patterns.

• Inform students to begin the artwork with pencil drawings: Like in the video, begin by drawing the lines of the house, horizon line (the line that separates the sky from the ground), any trees or bushes, and any clouds or hills. When finished drawing these areas, trace over the lines with a black crayon or black marker form their art bags.

• Next, use different colors of crayons or color pencils (if they have them) or color markers (if they have them) to draw the shapes, lines, and patterns inside the trees, hills, ground (grass), house, etc. NOTE: please inform students not to completely color in any areas of the artwork. Instead, use different colored Lines, Shapes, and/or Patterns to give the areas color.

• Below is a video of another art teacher demonstrating how to create the Line and Pattern Landscape with a House artwork.

• In addition, I have included below 2 pictures of examples of Line and Pattern Landscapes to help students with some ideas.

• NOTE: Students may not finish the coloring portions of their artwork. If they do not finish coloring, they still bring their pictures home where they can finish them at home.

• If possible, please keep the examples on the SmartBoard, after the video has been shown, for students to use as a reference.
