New Word that is a type of Abstract art is Surrealism (both real and abstract).
This project will be called the Dali Birds. Students will create a surreal (abstract) picture of birds inspired by the artist Salvador Dali.
This is considered to be a 3 art class, or 3 week project.
Students will create 1 Abstract picture of Dali Birds.
Surrealism- Artwork made that looks both real and abstract.
Realistic- Looks real.
Abstract- Not realistic.
Creativity- To try out new ideas or new or different ways of doing things.

Materials to be used: Pencil, paper, markers or watercolors, crayons or color pencils.

Perhaps Salvador Dali's most famous painting called "The Persistence of Memory". Notice how the picture has parts that look real and other parts that look unrealistic (or not-real). This picture is another example of Abstract art. Salvador Dali's style of abstract art is called "surrealism".
Here is another example of Salvador Dali's Surreal art. Notice how the animals' legs look very unrealistic. This is the picture that inspired the Dali Birds project.

Day 1: Draw with Pencil and then trace with black sharpie marker.
Day 2: Use watercolor paints and salt to paint the entire paper (background).
Day 3: Finish by removing the salt from the painting and use oil crayons to color.
