Centre for Computational Simulations

The centre is equipped with several computing servers: a Lenovo ThinkStation PX computing server, 96 cores, 1TB RAM, 2x NVIDIA A6000s and four dedicated computing stations containing Intel XEON 49 cores and 256 RAM.

Available software: ANSYS Multiphysics, CFX, FLUENT, Siemens AMESIM, Prescan, StarCCM+, GT suite, ADAMS, FEMFAT, CREO, CATIA and more.

Workstation Lenovo ThinkStation PX

This station will be a key tool for BUT in testing and developing automotive technologies, including simulations of vehicle behaviour and analysis of camera and lidar data. Configuration of the supplied equipment:

Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 a ThinkPad P16s Gen2

The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 and Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 2 mobile workstations were selected for their performance and mobility. They feature 13th generation Intel® Core™ processors and support NVIDIA® RTX™ graphics. They offer a powerful combination of fast memory and storage, and a choice of displays, including OLED touchscreens. The laptops are spill-resistant, feature Dolby Atmos® and Dolby Voice® technologies for high-quality audio, and offer over-the-shoulder unwanted gaze detection with a hybrid infrared camera.

At the same time, Lenovo hasn't compromised on security here. The device is protected by ThinkShield technology, which includes a dedicated Trusted Platform Module (dTPM) chip for data encryption, a biometric fingerprint reader for easy one-touch login, and a self-correcting BIOS that can restore previous system settings. Your mobile workstation and data are safe wherever you are.

Laptop transport and charging trolley - Laptop classroom

This technology will be used in the teaching of the new MSc Advanced Automotive Engineering programme, which prepares the automotive engineers of the future by combining teaching in the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Communication Technology and Information Technology.

Testing and development of automotive technologies

This station will be a key tool for BUT in testing and developing automotive technologies, including simulations of vehicle behaviour and analysis of camera and lidar data.

Below you can see a new approach to testing the cars of the future using ThinkStation PX. An example of simulation results in IPG CarMaker software is shown in the image to the right. The IPG CarMaker software takes full advantage of the display acceleration provided by ThinkStation PX using the UNREAL Engine known from computer games. The image shows a digital twin of a real Skoda Enyaq from the Institute of Automotive and Traffic Engineering, where a scenario is being tested to see if the vehicle, in conjunction with V2X and V2V technologies, will detect a moving pedestrian hidden behind the vehicle and if ADAS will correctly intervene and bring the vehicle to a stop.
