Metaphors are much more than simple figures of speech to embellish our literary texts. They are powerful cognitive mechanisms that allow us to think about one concept by means of another. Humans shared the potential for metaphorical thinking because metaphors are grounded in our bodies and in our interaction with the world around us. However, to what extent do speakers of different languages share the same metaphors? Join me in this tour around the basic tenets of conceptual metaphor theory to find out how speakers of L1 and L2 Spanish deal with metaphor in their everyday life.
