Cavera is a genus of extremely large, syngamic Secara species residing in humid littoral environments. While individual shapes/sizes differ between species, each is characterized by a large stature and an apex role in littoral environments.
Barbed Spelaea
(Cavera comedensis)
The Barbed Spelaea, Cavera comedensis, is a large carnivorous species of voluk typically residing in littoral environments in eastern Pratoria, where they are the apex predator of the rocky ecosystem. They are immediately recognizable by their long, barbed tail, black rubbery skin, and large compound eyes. Troglodytic and nocturnal in nature, they retreat to caves during the day and come out to hunt at night. Despite their large size, they primarily feed on smaller organisms, most notably invertebrate burrowers of class Cunicula. They reproduce syngamically, their "pods" convergent on those of the bellua and kirin but not formed from the same evolutionary line. They typically birth up to 400 young in a year, but they are cursed with the lack of ability to recognize their young from their food; on average, only around 25 make it to adulthood, where they then move on to another part of the coastline or challenge their parent for dominance. Fights for dominance are always fatal to the loser, and its body serves as food for the victor for months afterwards. Their barbed tails are rarely used for hunting so much as for defending their territory, utilizing highly-potent venom to discourage stragglers from entering their homelands. Their tails are also used to end the life of the loser in battles for dominance. They typically grow up to 35 ft (10.667 m) long and typically weigh around 1700 lbs (771 kg).
