Taipei Xinhai Bilingual Elementary School has designed a trilingual curriculum project titled “Xinhai Wonderland Trilingual Education – Taipei Zoo Endangered and Children’s Animal Animation Story Sharing,” integrating Mandarin, English, and programming language. Students use endangered animals and children’s favorite animals from Taipei Zoo as source material to create a series of animated stories, developing their abilities in language expression, scientific inquiry, and technology application through cross‑domain learning.
In the Science and Technology Domain, with support from teachers and Taipei Zoo tour volunteers, students take part in activities to learn about animals, focusing on two main themes: endangered animals and animals loved by children. Their learning sequence moves from “learning about animals” and “learning about endangered species” to “selecting an animal” and “creating an animal‑introduction presentation,” enabling them to understand animal characteristics and living conditions from both scientific and conservation perspectives.
In the English Domain, the course focuses on English script editing and sound recording, and students write dialogue and narration for their animations bilingually in Chinese and English. After completing the scripts, they proceed to record voiceovers, practicing English reading, articulation, and intonation, and then apply the recordings directly in their final animated works.
In the Arts and Humanities Domain, students are guided to design mascot characters and story roles that act as friends of the zoo animals in the story, thereby developing skills in visual design and character development. The course clearly distinguishes between “Children’s Animals” and “Endangered Animals,” such as alpaca, meerkat, leopard cat, Eurasian otter, and pangolin, so that students consider both ecological diversity and species conservation while creating.
In the Information Technology curriculum, students use programming to integrate the previously created characters and sound, completing interactive or animated works. Their learning outcomes are presented in multiple digital formats, including presentations, web pages, and animations, allowing them to experience a continuous creative process from data collection, script writing, and visual design to program integration.
