Public Safety Agencies in Tennessee - 9/27/2022 - a general overview written by Zerg90 - fire protection is provided by city, county, and independent fire departments (FD)- wildfire protection is provided by Tennessee State Forestry using small bulldozers (typically 1 dozer and 1 small engine and 1 station in each forested county - 10/8/2023) and helicopters - (and by structural FDs )- Search and Rescue services are provided by County Rescue Squads using small boats and ATVs - FDs and County Rescue Squads extricate victims from motor vehicle crashes and other entrapments - ambulance services are provided by fire departments, county rescue squads, county ambulance services, local ambulance services, etc - helicopter ambulance services are provided by a multitude of private 'for profit' services - police services are provided by city police departments, county sheriffs, (and the State Highway Patrol who concentrates on major highways)
