New Hampshire - public safety information
Most cities and towns in New Hampshire have their own police departments and fire departments - many of the smaller towns are served by regional ambulance services (public and private) - such as at Lancaster, Colebrook, Peterborough, Claremont, Hanover, Haverhill, Gorham, Derry, Conway, and Plymouth - etc - each County has a Sheriff Dept but typically they do not operate road patrols - they basically focus on running a county jail and a county dispatch center - New Hampshire State Police focus on patrolling the interstate highways but they also protect many of the smaller towns when there are no local police on duty - fire departments are typically fulltime for any community with more than 10,000 occupants - medevac helicopters fly 24/7 from Hanover and Manchester - they are operated by DHART - there are a couple of trauma centers - they are at Dartmouth and Concord and Manchester - there are no state laws mandating response times nor service levels afaik - there is no public reporting on response times nor save rates - 11/1/2025
There are several regional fire / ems dispatch centers in NH - see www.radioreference.com/db/aid/4190 - they typically dispatch fire agencies and EMS agencies based in multiple counties
There are currently 313 licensed EMS Units and 6,240 EMS Providers.- per https://www.nhafc.org/assets/8-14-25 Regular Meeting Minutes 8-14-25.pdf - 12/12/2025
