Who are the census takers?

Census takers are Census Bureau employees who will visit the households of those who have not yet responded. This will happen in May. Census takers always display an ID badge with their photograph, a watermark, and an expiration date, They also carry other equipment with Census Bureau logo. It looks like this:

How can I be sure my information is kept safe?

How can I be sure I'm not being scammed?

The Census Bureau will never send unsolicited emails to request 2020 Census participation.

The Census Bureau will also never ask for information like:

  • Social Security number
  • bank or credit card information
  • money or donations
  • anything on behalf of a political party
