Penthora is a fractured peninsula of land emerging from the Stormwall at the westernmost point of Altandor. Being across the choppy Helion Sea and subject to frequent powerful storms from the Stormwall, it's a perilous journey at best and a deadly one at worst. No people call Penthora home, and few have reason to travel here. It is only the desperate that arrive on Penthora's coast, seeking something they need enough to brave the dangers. Legends name Penthora as a place of magic and destiny, home to the rarest of flora and fauna that one might need for a spell or magic item, resting place of ancient and powerful weapons, a land holy to magic itself. Many are the tales where the hero visits Penthora in their darkest hour, when the last sliver of hope lies on the westward shores, and returns home with the thing they need most to claim victory. Most are sure to be just stories, but many people believe that with so many accounts, a grain of truth is sure to be in one.
Beyond its use as a place of legend in stories, Penthora is often referenced as a place where one might find something considered impossible or out of reach, a place where beloved items lost in the Helion Sea might wash up, or as a place one might ship naughty children to if they don't learn to behave.
