Holowatches are a small device worn by nearly all Kepek in the Kepek Commonwealth. They are typically worn around one of their wrists (or around their tails or necks as a necklace for Kepek who don't have or can't wear anything around their wrists).
They come in many colours and sizes and function similar to a smartwatch or modern smartphone, but silver and gold are the most popular colours.
Because of how essential their use has become in Kepeki society, the Kepek Commonwealth has deemed them an essential item and they are therefor free to all Kepek Commonwealth citizens. Non-citizens still have to purchase them in Commonwealth territory, but they usually are relatively low-cost.
Holowatches can connect to and be used to browse the hypernet, make and receive hologram calls and messages, act as an ID or security tag, take holoscans, serve as a universal connection and controller for many technological devices, store and retrieve Veu Coins (The Commonwealth's currency) and of course, tell the time.
They are also commonly used as accessibility devices for disabled Kepek. For example, those with physical disabilities that use mobility aids such as wheelchairs, canes, prosthetics, crutches etc often synchronise the single-item teleporters installed into their devices to their watch so they can summon their devices quickly and easily. Alternatively some non-verbal Kepek use their holowatches as an AAC device.
Despite their simple appearance, holowatches are very complex devices. a big part of their complexity comes in the form of security measures. As many Kepek keep their ID's, Security passes and digital keys stored within the watch, they need to be very secure. If the watch detects the wearer is not an authorised user and does not match the identity of the stored ID's, it will lock most of its functionality down.
