The Kepek Commonwealth is name of the Kepek empire that spans most of the galaxy. The Commonwealth is ruled by an Empress and a council of representatives from each of the colonies. Colonies are more or less free to do as they wish, as long as they operate within the rules the council sets.
The Kepek Commonwealth is ruled by an Empress who is elected by the Kepek Commonwealth council, which is made up of representatives from the Interstellar Colony Fleets.
The council consists of four representatives from each fleet, usually the ICF Captain, ICF Defence Minister, ICF Minister of Recourse Management and an ICF Ambassador for the people. Each Interstellar Colony Fleet has multiple planetary, space station and roaming colony ships under its control. The leaders of these smaller colonies all report to the ICF Ambassador. The ICF Ambassador then passes on any relevent information to the Captain of their fleet, who reports to the Council and the Empress.
The Kepek Commonwealth is estimated to have somewhere around 30 billion citizens spread out over their various stations, ships and planetary colonies. Their largest population centres are usually the space stations such as The Bektep Space Station, followed by their Interstellar Colony Fleets and then the planetary colonies.
The death rate for the space-fairing citizens is extremely low, with only a tiny percentage dying of causes other than old age, at least in the general population. Planetary colonies, however, have much higher death rates, with premature deaths from accidents being much more common, especially on planets with harsh environments.
The Kepek Commonwealth's technological level varies from place to place, although they strive to keep the entire empire as consistent as possible by promoting trade and sharing of information via the Interstellar Colony Fleets.
Faster-Than-Light (or FTL) speed travel is available in every single Interstellar Colony ship, but is not generally given to the public in privately owned vehicles outside of emergency-use evacuation features, as it can cause damage to the fabric of space and cause black holes if used incorrectly.

Teleportation of inorganic material is extremely commonplace, especially for small scale objects. Organic material teleportation is possible but is illegal, as teleportation tears apart the subject at an atomic level and reassembles it somewhere else, and therefore it kills and creates a copy of any living creature or thing. Even non-living organic material is banned from teleportation as the reassembly process tends to cause contamination issues.
instantaneous messages and communication over immense distances is possible and commonplace among those in positions of power, such as ICF Captains and planetary colony prime ministers, as well as those in jobs where it would be needed, such a scouting ship captains, but is too expensive to be accessed by most of the population.
The Kepek Commonwealth covers the basic costs of living for most of its citizens. Most food items can be easily replicated and reproduced through methods similar to 3D printing for little to no cost, and so these items are entirely free to all within the commonwealth. This replicated food is more than enough to sustain someone, and has just as many nutrients (or more) as its naturally occurring/grown/harvested counterpart. Naturally grown foods (any plant or fungi that not lab-grown or replicated) can be purchased very easily though, but there is very little difference other than a slightly "fresher" taste. Natural meat, however, is harder to come by and tends to be much more expensive. Most Kepek are happy to replace "true" meat with substitutes such as purnekel fins that do not harm the creature to harvest.
Other resources like water, housing and clothing are also free, as is access to power and basic technology. For all these items, more high-end versions are available, and anyone in the commonwealth is free to purchase them, but all basics are provided for. With the stresses of affording to live not a concern for most Kepek they are free to spend the money they do earn from their jobs on non-essentials and things they enjoy.
For this, they have their currency, Veu. 1 Veu is made up of 10 kip, and each kip is made up of 10 iteb. 1 iteb is approximately $1 AUD. the coins are rectangular with chunks cut out of the bottom (except for Iteb coins). To ensure the tabs can not be accidentally broken off, the coins are quite thick, but still relatively lightweight. They also have single-item teleporters installed in every coin, so a Kepek can simply hold the coin up to a device such as a holowatch and it will be teleported to either the user's bank account or another safe place, designated by the user. Veu Coins are blue in colour, Kip is gold and Iteb is red.
When written in Xebriken, the official language of the Commonwealth, the different coins are represented using the following symbols, written after the number.
It is also very common for Kepek to trade for luxuries rather than use Veu directly. for example, an astrofarmer may choose to trade their harvested goods in exchange for an upgrade to their ship.
