Vakib is a tidally locked planet orbiting Darukip, a lone, red dwarf star. The day-side of the planet is unbearably hot, while the dark-side is extremely cold.
It was settled out of urgency, long before Faster-Than-Light travel was achieved by the Kepek. The original settlers of Vakib were running out of food, water and resources and would not have made it to the next system when they found Vakib. They did not have the technology to make it truly habitable at the time, but were able to survive in he Band Of Twilight, a small sliver of habitable land. This small, life-sustaining pocket could not support them for long however, and the Kepek split into two groups. One ventured into the planet's depths to settle on the day-side, away from their star's heat and radiation, while the others ventured slowly into the dark-side once technology had improved enough for them to do so safely.
Vakib and it's star system have recently gained independence from the Kepek Commonwealth after a rebellion brought on by the Eveni's treatment of it's people. Now, The Gavradi and Ikta have their own nations which rule the planet in peace.
Vakib doesn't have a lot of resources, and fewer still that are worth much to those outside Vakib. A few settlements on the hot side of the planet are home to successful mines, harvesting volcanic minerals such as iron, copper, zinc and diamonds. The Dark side, on the other hand, is native habitat of Adaketab vines, which grow the delicious Talaxet Berries - a popular food among the Kepek. In the wild, Talaxet Berries grow on vines that cling to whatever they can to anchor themselves, and explode, dispersing a mist when disturbed. The juice inside is naturally toxic to most of Vakib's native wildlife, and when exposed to the bitter cold air, cause a chemical reaction that can freeze whatever is trying to eat them. Kepek however, are resistant to the toxin and find the taste delicious, so much so that the Ikta began to cultivate and selectively breed for plants with sweeter, but less explosive fruit, specifically to trade with The Commonwealth.

As an Independent territory, the planet of Vakib is free to govern themselves in any way they see fit. As such, the two different peoples found on Vakib decided to rule their own regions separately, forming two distinct countries, Iktad and Gavrad.
Gavrad is home to the Gavradi and encompasses the entirety of the light side of Vakib, while Iktad is the home of the Ikta, and encompasses the planet's dark side. The region between, the band of Twilight, is considered neutral territory which both nations share.
The band of twilight is the thin band of comfortably habitable space between the light and dark sides of Vakib. It was the first area settled by the Gavradi and Ikta, and is now home to many of the planet's most densely habited cities.
On the light side of the planet, there is a crater of magma. Its origin is a mystery, when the Kepek first settled on Vakib, it was thought that it was caused by the intense, concentrated heat of the star, but further studies showed this wasn't the case. In fact, the surrounding rock isn't nearly hot enough to melt, and so one of the most popular theories is that Vakib experienced a cataclysmic impact some time before the Kepek arrived and the "wound" it left never healed. This is supported by the fact that when the Kepek arrived on Vakib, the life found there seemed to be very limited, but fossil records indicate this wasn't always the case.
The frozen ring is the furthest point from Vakib's star, where light never touches and nothing grows. Some particularly sturdy animals inhabit this region, but only for a few months at a time, and no Kepek have ever laid claim to it permanently.
