Artab

Overview

Artab is a gas giant in the Valretek Star System and is part of the Evenilap fleet's colonies. Artab's inhabitants, the Artabeans, live in cities constructed in the upper atmosphere, mainly around the north and south poles, above the most violent storms where weather conditions are a little more bearable.

The air on Artab has a decent amount of sulphur dioxide in it, along with a number of other potentially dangerous compounds. As a result, the Artabeans have developed the ability to filter the sulphur out of the compounds and just use the oxygen, meaning it is less harmful to them and allows them to breathe in Artab's atmosphere in all but the harshest conditions. Other Kepek however are recommended to use respiratory aids and protection while outside.

Artab is not heavily populated, at least not on a permanent basis, but it is where the majority of the Kepek Commonwealth's large-scale manufacturing is done.

Natural Resources

Artab's atmosphere is a source of many useful gases, such as nitrogen, hydrogen, helium and methane, as well sulphur and oxygen. Hydrogen and helium are found in all layers of the atmosphere, and are commonly harvested to be used as fuel for thruster engines, among many other things. sulphur can also be found and harvested from Artab's atmosphere, and is primarily used in manufacturing of plastics and other similar materials. Finally, the wind generated by the super-storms and heat generated by the planet's core are an immensely helpful resource in generating power to fuel the enormous manufacturing industry on Artab.

Regions of Interest

The Eyes of the North and South

Artab's entire "surface" consists of endlessly raging storms. The only place where one can expect to find relief is at the planet's poles, named The Eye of the North and The Eye of the South, respectively. In these regions, the settlements are able to be built further into the planet's atmosphere and access some of the harder-to-reach resources not usually obtainable.

Kevaxid

Kevakid is Artab's capital city, located slightly north of The South Eye. This is the port where most ships arriving on Artab go and is one of the most densely populated cities on the planet.
