Origin of Campfire Robes

The campfire robe is one of the traditional unique features of Scouting and is a symbol of the Scouts' participation in campfire gatherings. As far as possible, all Scouts should possess one.

The value of the campfire robe lies in being able to display the qualifications, accomplishments and previous participation in important events of the wearer, by affixing each Scout badge to the robe. In this way, the robe has a role of encouraging morale and allows other Scouts and leaders to participate more actively in Scouting events. By obtaining numerous badges, you can create a unique campfire robe different to any other. The campfire robe has the additional function of keeping you warm in cooler evenings.

The material and the style of the campfire robe are not specifically regulated and can be designed in accordance with personal tastes, thoughts and imagination. Owing to Singapore's climate being relatively humid and warm, a material with good ventilation is a more suitable choice. For example, a campfire robe could be a cloak or open-fronted garment made out of spun or drilled-cloth material. Scout badges that have been collected should be sewn on to complete the look.

Every badge tells a story.
