Own or have the regular use of a bicycle of proper size.
Be able to mount and dismount properly.
Understand the need for keeping the bicycle in a road worthy condition, and help to do this for the bicycle you own or use regularly.
Be able to clean and oil a bicycle. Show how to pump up the tyres or mend a puncture.
Understand the need for keeping a bicycle locked when leaving it unattended.
Show knowledge of the proper use of signals and rules applicable to cyclists as set out in the Highway Code in the Sections for the "Road User on Wheels" and "Extra Rules for Cyclists".
Understand the need for lights and reflective clothing. Discuss the safety measures necessary for riding in poor light.
Demonstrate that you can ride safely and confidently by going for a short ride in a safe place with your pack and Akela.
