Broomfield Hotel

Officially falls under the Liversedge district (the boundary being the dotted line on the map below). Located at the entrance to what was the old Broomfield Mills at Moor Bottom. A newspaper article states that the premises were built in 1867 by John Roberts who became the first licence holder.

23 Aug 1869 - Brewster Sessions - Annual licence renewals were heard at Dewsbury and granted to John Roberts, Broomfield Hotel, Hartshead Moor Bottom.

2 Apr 1871 - Census - Broomfield Hotel, Cleckheaton. Occupants recorded as John & Ann Roberts.

Apr 1872 - Brewery - Acquired by Samuel Webster & Sons.

3 Sep 1877 - Court Case - John Roberts, landlord of the Broomfield Hotel was charged with permitting drunkenness in his house. Fined 20s.

3 Apr 1881 - Census - Broomfield Hotel, School Street. William Ridley & family residing here. He is recorded as a mill mechanic.

5 Dec 1882 - Inquest - Landlord recorded as Samuel Clayton.

5 Apr 1891 - Census - Broomfield Hotel, School Street. Occupants recorded as Humphrey Heaton and family.

16 Aug 1895 - Court Case - A coal dealer named Humphrey Heaton was fined 20s for selling underweight coal. It was said that he was also landlord of the Broomfield.

31 Mar 1901 - Census - Broomfield Hotel. Innkeeper recorded as Joseph Humpleby & family.

2 Apr 1911 - Census - Broomfield Inn, Cleckheaton. Landlord recorded as Joseph Beaumont & his wife Emma.

18 Sep 1929 - Death Notice - Emma, wife of Joseph Beaumont of the Broomfield Hotel.

20 Aug 1931 - Death Notice - Joseph Beaumont, aged 73, of the Broomfield Hotel, Cleckheaton.

1935 - Electoral Register - Occupants recorded as Frances & Frank Rawson (previous residents of the Talbot)

1940 - Electoral Register - Occupants recorded as Admiral Coates Holdsworth & Elsie Holdsworth.
