Resident Evil 3 Remake is a weird one for me personally. As someone who has never played the original game, seeing everything occuring in the game for the first time was so much fun. However, after seeing some of the cut scenes and gameplay segments in the original, I can't help but wonder if they could have made a great game even greater.
First off, this game is visually stunning. It is definetly one of the most polished games I've seen. Even though it i uses the same engine as RE2 Remake, there's just something about RE3 Remake that just looks more detailed than RE2 Remake. In addition, this game is a blast to play. Eveyrthing in this game was just so much fun, and could be even more of a joyride than RE2 Remake, as RE3 Remake is more action oriented than its predicesor.
Now here's the thing. With as much fun and excitement that I had with RE3 Remake, I just wish they did more with it. I completed my first playthrough in about 5 and a half hours, which is on the shorter side if we're comparing Resident Evil games. And as I mentioned earlier, I took a look at the original, and there were a lot of areas that have been taken out of the remake. I can't help but wonder why they decided to cut so much out of what many consider the best RE game out of all the static camera ones. Maybe to keep the game replayable? Since the game can be beaten in 5 hours, replayability is definetly there, since the harder difficulties you unlock for doing Hardcore is a nice challenge. But as someone who started a new playthrough, I don't feel compelled to do a repeat run. It isn't like RE2 where the runs vary.
And that's my main complaint. I just wish there was more in RE3 Remake. Give me more Nemesis, more Carlos, more areas from the orignial. Don't get me wrong, this is still a tight game with the horror you would expect from a Resident Evil game, but since there isn't much given in the base game, that really hinders the fact that this is a full $60 game. Now bundled in RE3 Remake is the online game RE: Resistance, an online co-op game where four players try to take down one mastermind and escape the facility the players a re trapped in. Even with RE: Resistance bundled in RE3 Remake, it never really captured my attention. After playing a handful of matches, I can definetly say being the mastermind is a blast. Controlling Mr. X and literally stomping on everyone is so much fun. That's all that RE: Resistance has going for though, since the survivors aren't nearly as fun as the Mastermind.
To conclude, RE3 Remake is a great game, but the lack of extra content in the base game is what makes it fall behind. And RE: Resistance is just okay.
