Katrielle Layton is a weird case. It’s apart of one of my favorite series, but doesn’t quite hit that mark as the other games in the Layton series does. For one thing the puzzles are very easy, with some exceptions. Another thing is that there is no one big over arching story, but instead is case based, with each one being unique (if you wanna get technical, there kinda is an over arching story across the whole game, but I’m not bouta spoil the game). On the other hand, the main cast of characters are super super lovable. The main selling point for me is just how great the characters are and how well each of them connect.
Overall, this isn’t a bad Layton game as I’ve seen other say. I see it as like a “Baby’s first Layton Game.” The other main line Layton games do have the more complicated stories and harder puzzles, so if that intimidated you for whatever reason, then this is a great way to get into the series. But not going to lie, the ending had me messed up and confused, but quickly made me realize how great the Layton games are, especially this one. Yeah it’s not as good as the DA entries, but it still holds up that Layton quality you’d expect in the games.
