Miitopia is absolutely one of those games that many can dismiss as just a “meme” or just a game that barely had any dev time, and was just put out there to make a quick buck. BOY ARE THEY WRONG. Miitopia surprisingly has a lot going for it, and I cannot get over how fun of a game it is. Let me explain.
Miitopia revolves around a world of Miis living peacefully and happily, until the Dark Lord of your choosing starts to steal everyone’s faces. It’s up to you, and WHOEVER YOU WANT as a party member to stop the Dark Lord’s scheme. Right off the bat, even the story of the game seems barebones, but legit, and I am not exaggerating when I say this, there is LORE and BACKSTORY to Miitopia. AND ITS ACTUALLY GOOD. You learn about different motivations from the heroes and villains, see character growth from different folks, and much more. Like WTF? AND THIS IS ALL FOR A MII GAME TOO.
On top of that, the game’s charm is unbelievable. Miitopia is very pleasant, and is written so well, to where no matter who you pick as your party members, you will have such a great time. Plus, due to the nature of picking who you want to be in Miitopia, it’s super customizable too. If you want to make it the goofiest and stupidest game, pick goofy and stupid Miis to play each part. If you actually want to play Miitopia for it’s gameplay and story (which is completely respectable and fair), the game comes with default Miis for each major role. Literally anyone can play it however they want. Even as an RPG, it’s super easy to learn and play, even for those who aren’t into RPGs. AND THIS IS ALL FOR A MII GAME TOO.
Speaking of its gameplay, you would be very shocked to see how in depth this game goes with its RPG elements. In layman’s terms, it’s a turn based JRPG, where you choose between a handful of classes, where each one has their own strengths and weaknesses. Basic stuff. What Miitopia does differently, is there are personalities that your Miis can be portrayed in, and they also have strengths and weaknesses ON TOP of the classes. You can mix and match in so many different ways, and build off of each class and personality to give yourself an edge in battle. Like you can have a stubborn tank to prevent more damage taken, or an excited warrior to deal more damage than a kind warrior for instance. It’s crazy how much strategy was put into this game. And on top of ALL OF THAT, there are sprinkles which give certain boosts, like healing HP and MP, or shielding them. What makes this special, is that you can ration out these healing items, so you can either be very safe and just use them in case of emergencies, or just go all out on them and use them for quick heals any time your party takes damage. All of this just keeps giving so much customization to every person’s playthrough, making for such a great game. AND THIS IS ALL FOR A MII GAME TOO.
If you’re at all curious about Miitopia, I recommend it whole heartedly. It leaves such an impression on you, and makes for an unforgettable experience that you just can’t get enough of. Best part is that it can appeal to everyone too. From the hardcore RPG fans looking for a fun time, to the casuals who have never played an RPG before, but want to customize their cast and crew to whatever they want to. This may even be a must play for all 3DS or Switch owners. I cannot stress this enough; you will have a blast. AND THIS IS ALL FOR A MII GAME TOO.
