Devil May Cry 5 is the pinnacle of combat-based action games, I'll go ahead and say that right now. With the Devil May Cry series as a whole is praised for its combat, Devil May Cry 5 is definitely the best in the series, as the high adrenaline, fast paced, wide variety gameplay is through the roof in Devil May Cry 5. It pretty much has everything going towards it and I'll go into detail about each and every aspect because I cannot recommend this game enough.
Let's start with the combat because boy, the combat in this game keeps the traditional Devil May Cry formula, with different button presses doing different actions depending on when you press the buttons. What's new to DMC 5 is that there are so many playable characters, and each one of them offers new gameplay elements. Nero's devil arm being a whole robot arm now, Dante's new weapons, abilities, with him also having his different combat styles just like DMC 3 and DMC 4, and newcomer V with his pets Shadow, Griffon, and Nightmare. With the wide variety of combat options at the players disposal, DMC 5 can never feel boring and stale with repetitive combat, as the player is constantly swapping between the three characters, which gives the game a fresh feeling.
Speaking of fresh, this game's graphics looks stunning. DMC was never known for its graphics, but now with DMC 5 being in the RE Engine and it being 4K compatible, the game is just so vibrant with its shades of colors, and not going to lie, really entranced me in its world so much, that I sometimes just zoned out while exploring. It sounds bad at first, but trust me, I would say a game accomplishes world building if the player is 100% on board with a game's setting.
You may be thinking that I'm absolutely hyping this game up to be a masterpiece, and while it may be considered one, there is one big complaint I have, and to be frank, it isn't even that big of one. The game is pretty easy on the initial run, and I repeat, ON THE INITIAL RUN. The game does unlock harder difficulties if you beat the game on the hardest difficulty you have available at the time. But on Devil Hunter, aka normal mode, aka the starting hardest difficulty, the game has plenty gold orbs and red orbs that dying won't feel very hurtful. But like I said, this isn't really a complaint, as you do unlock harder difficulties, and it makes sense as to why you are restricted to Devil Hunter mode at first, because Capcom may have seen DMC 5 as people's first DMC game, and it has been 11 years since DMC 4, and Capcom probably played it safe with DMC 5's starting difficulty making it like DMC 3's for instance.
But with the "bad" aside, I can't recommend this game enough, as I said before. I can go on and on about everything about DMC 5 (the characters, the plot, the music, etc.), but I'll end this off by saying that DMC 5 isn't just the best DMC game in the series, but also may be, the best game Capcom has produced. It is just that good, and if you want to jump into DMC 5, I recommend playing the other games first to understand how the series got to where it is now, but then you will not be disappointed with the hype this game can bring to one's mind, body, and soul.
